READ ALOUD - Class 1 (Week 7)

Dear Students,

Welcome back to the Library. It is now Week 7 of online teaching.
Let us commence this class, with a beautiful quotation on reading :

We had started READ ALOUD sessions last week. I hope you enjoyed the story and were able to read aloud, and pronounce the words correctly.

If you were having difficulty reading the story, then worry not. We will continue working on READ ALOUD this week and in the summer holidays, as well.

The purpose of giving you multiple READ ALOUD sessions, is to ensure that by the time you are back in school, you are able to read a passage quickly and fluently. 

Today, I have picked another short story for you :
 "THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR"

Do you know what a caterpillar is? And what it looks like?

Listen to the story to understand it better.

Also, you MUST read aloud the story at least 3 times to get familiar with the difficult words.

1. Discuss the moral of the story with your parents and siblings 

2. What all fruits and vegetables did this hungry caterpillar eat?

READ ALOUD - Class 1 (Week 6)

Dear Students,

Welcome back to the Library class.

I sincerely hope you enjoyed last week's story telling session, and the activity to draw the Gingerbread Man. 

We are now in Week 6 of online teaching. We will start to slowly progress from story telling, to read aloud story sessions.

The motive of READ ALOUD story sessions is to encourage students to learn the correct pronunciation, the pitch and the rise and fall of the voices while reading and narrating stories. 

The story I have picked for you, is a short story, "THE LITTLE RED HEN".

Since it is a short story, you can first listen to the story and then read aloud at least two or three times in front of your parents and siblings to make sure you are able to pronounce and read the words correctly. 

There will be a lot of NEW WORDS, but don't you worry. Take your time to learn the meaning and pronunciation of these words. You can repeatedly work on pronouncing these words to your parents, so that you are able to learn it well.

MORAL OF THE STORY : 

The moral of the story is the to ALWAYS lend a helping hand to your friends, family and loved ones.

STORY TELLING - Class 1 (Week 5)

Dear Students,

Welcome back to the Library!! We are now in week 5 of online teaching. I hope this experience of online learning has been enriching for you. I also hope that you have been enjoying the short stories I select for our Library classes.

This week, we are going to be reading another short story - THE GINGERBREAD MAN 

Have any of you ever heard about or seen this story before?

Make sure to watch and listen attentively. There is an important lesson to be learnt from this story.

TASK FOR THE WEEK

1) To draw a gingerbread man

2) The message and moral of the story must be discussed with the parents. It is important for students to learn at a young age that interacting with strangers and trusting them can be a threat to their safety.

3) List and discuss the different animals that chased the gingerbread man.

STORY TELLING - Class 1 (Week 4)

Dear Students,

Welcome back to the library!! It is now your 4th week of classes. I sincerely hope you all have been enjoying the library class and the story telling sessions.

Each week you must revise and remember the RULES OF THE LIBRARY. Also remember to read some short stories in your free time, with the help of your parents and siblings.

For today's class, we will be listening to a short story called - LITTLE OCTOPUS WENT TO SCHOOL

Let's start with the following questions :

1. Do you know what an Octopus is?

2. Where does an Octopus live?

An Octopus is a sea animal, that lives in open water bodies like seas and oceans. It is called an Octopus because it has EIGHT legs. An octopus's legs are called TENTACLES.

Now that you all know what an OCTOPUS is, let us watch and listen to a fun short story!!

TASK FOR THE WEEK : While watching and listening to the story, revise the days of the week with your parents and you can learn the spellings of the days of the week as well.

The MORAL of this story is, that even though the OCTOPUS was scared to be in a new surrounding and a new school, he learnt how to adjust and make new friends. We must never give up. We should always learn to adjust in a new environment and learn to make new friends.

STORY TIME : Class 1 (Week 3)

Dear Students,

Welcome back to the Library.

Hope you enjoyed last week's story time and still remember the story that you watched.

I would like you all to take a minute to tell your parents, briefly about the story from last week. You can tell them the title, the summary of the story. This will just help you recall last week's lesson, before we proceed.

Keep your ears open, and listen closely for any new words that you might not have heard before. Ask your parents to help you find the meanings of any such new or difficult words.

This week's assignment includes :

1. Pick 2 new words from the story, write them in your rough notebook, and learn the spellings of these words.

2. You can draw a picture suitable to the story, in a rough notebook. It can be anything that you find easy to draw, be it their house, the porridge bowls, the three bears, etc.

Welcome back to the library, this is your second class.

Hence, we will first start by recapping the library rules you had learnt last week.

Kindly watch the video once again to refresh and revise the rules.

INTRODUCTION TO THE LIBRARY - Class 1

Dear students,

Welcome to Class 1. This will be your first Library period. I am Mrs. Kandhari and I will be your librarian. I will be coming to your class once a week.

1. Our first lesson is for you to learn how to read, spell and pronounce the word 'Library' correctly.
You can write the word in your rough notebook, to practice the spellings. 

2. Kindly refer to the post which has 'RULES OF THE LIBRARY'. These rules are meant to be followed to maintain discipline during class.  
This week, you will choose one rule from that post, and memorise it.

Welcome to the Junior School Library. I am your library teacher, Mrs. Mini Kandhari.


You might be thinking, what is a library? 

A library is a room containing books, magazines, newspapers, and maps.
A place for members of an institution, where you can sit and read
and listen to the beautiful stories being narrated by the teacher.
Students MUST maintain pin drop silence in a library.

RULES OF THE LIBRARY

1. Maintain silence. No talking with friends and peers during the library period. 

2. Keep your library neat and tidy. 

3. Don't fold or tear the pages of a book. 

4. Take care of the books. 

5. Don't scribble on the books or the furniture. 

6. Don't fight with your classmates over the books. 

7. Don't disturb others while they are reading.
